Mad Dog 10k

What a fab morning in not so sunny Southport for my first ever Mad Dog 10k race! This one had been on my bucket list for a couple of years and this year I managed to bag a place!

The weather was harsh, winds between 25 and 35mph with gusts to 50mph blowing in off the sea. Made the first 5km tough, especially with the added occasional rain and hail, not to mention the sand blowing across in places too!

After the first 5km, we turned off the sea front and back along the promenade and it was like a different race! The headwind that had hindered all the way so far was now behind us like a helping hand, and it felt good!

The bands, choirs, singers and drummers to keep us entertained were brilliant. As were the marshals who never waned in their enthusiasm to cheer us on despite the conditions.

A fantastically well organised race and one of the best goody bags I’ve had.

Fingers crossed I’ll get a place again next year, and maybe a tad less wind? 🤣
